wisdom’s secret

It is wise to focus on labour
instead of its fruits
but
as I eat this wonderful avocado
from a tree I didnt even plant
I can taste the wonderful labour
of that man from the past

letting me know
(in a whisper) that:
“the labour is its fruit and
the fruit is
its labour”
the man who grows the plant
is the plant that grows
that man

the seed is the tree
the tree is its seeds
the fruit is the labour
and the labour
its own fruit

the ends are the means
which are
the principles

these principles
— the wise virtues —
are the only ends
and the only
worthy means

without them
— without principles —
just bad means and even a
worse end
